The SQL Server 2005 Express edition (they renamed Enterprise manager) will backwardly look at older databases. SQL Server 2005 is really completely brand new and you don't really want to look for the old stuff. SQL server 2005 is "a major" change.

Anyone have a link to SQL 2000 evaluation software? I've found the 2005 Edition but I don't think it's backwards compatable.

Actually you don't have to have SQL 2000 server on your machine. The only thing you need is Enterprise Manager.

What you'll want to do is download the SQL 2000 evaluation software, then during the install select only the connectivity tools. That would install Enterprise Manager and you'll be good to go.

Do I need to have a copy of SQL 2000 on machine to setup and access the database that is hosted by my ISP?
